On the valuation of arithmetic{average Asian options: the Geman{Yor Laplace transform revisited

چکیده

The Laplace transform approach of [GY] is a celebrated advance in valuing Asian options. Its insights are fundamental from both a mathematical and a nancial perspective. In this paper, we discuss two observations regarding the nancial relevance of its results. First, we show that the [GY] Laplace transform is not that of an Asian option price, as reported in [GY] and other papers. We nonetheless show how the [GY] Laplace transform can be used to obtain the price of an Asian option. Second, we nd that following [GY] these Laplace transfoms are available only if the risk-neutral drift is not less than half the squared volatility. Using complex analytic techniques, we lift this restriction, thus extending the nancial applicability of the Laplace transform approach.

Pricing and Hedging Double - Barrier Options : A Probabilistic Approach '

Barrier options have become increasingly popular over the last few years. Less expensive than standard options, they may provide the appropriate hedge in a number of risk management strategies. In the case of a single barrier option, the valuation problem is not very difficult (see Merton 193, Goldman-Sosin-Gatto 1979). The situation where the option gets knocked out when the underlying instrum...

Pricing Asian Options: a Comparison of Analytical and Monte Carlo Methods

Asian options paying the excess over strike, of either the arithmetic or geometric average of the asset price over either discrete or continuous time, are valued using analytical and simulation methodologies. Expressions are developed for the double Laplace transform of the continuous arithmetic Asian option in both its strike and maturity. Analytical option prices for the continuous arithmetic...

Analytical Ramifications of Derivatives Valuation: Asian Options and Special Functions

Averaging problems are ubiquitous in Finance with the valuation of the so–called Asian options on arithmetic averages as their most conspicuous form. There is an abundance of numerical work on them, and their stochastic structure has been extensively studied by Yor and his school. However, the analytical structure of these problems is largely unstudied. Our philosophy now is that such valuation...

Pricing Double Barrier Options: An Analytical Approach

Double barrier options have become popular instruments in derivative markets. Several papers have already analysed double knock-out call and put options using di erent methods. In a recent paper, Geman and Yor (1996) derive expressions for the Laplace transform of the double barrrier option price. However, they have to resort to numerical inversion of the Laplace transform to obtain option pric...

Numerical Valuation of American Options Under the CGMY Process

American put options written on an underlying stock following a Carr-Madan-Geman-Yor (CGMY) process are considered. It is known that American option prices satisfy a Partial Integro-Differential Equation (PIDE) on a moving domain. These equations are reformulated as a Linear Complementarity Problem, and solved iteratively by an implicit-explicit type of iteration based on a convenient splitting...
